This course aims to offer quality training in a friendly and supportive atmostphere. As a copywriter with 30 years' experience, I've written for household names and on award-winning work.

The day's designed for you if you write copy - perhaps as part of a marketing role or because you run your own business. It suits delegates who are just learning the copywriting ropes and those who are more experienced and would like a refresher on copy basics.

About the day

The morning session:

  • Planning for success – what you should know before you put pen to paper: planning that’s designed to make your marketing copy speak even more powerfully to your target market
  • Eight golden rules for more effective copywriting – including writing from your reader’s point of view and achieving ‘pull through’
  • Getting the reader’s attention
  • What is transparency and why is it important?
  • Ideas for winning headlines.

The afternoon session:

  • Ten top tips for creating more compelling text – including writing in plain English and the feature:benefit conundrum - creating the message that's right for your target market.
  • The importance of the call to action in the selling process.
  • The importance of the checking process.
  • Writing differently for different tactics – what would you put in a sales letter that has no place in a website?
  • Tips for overcoming writer’s block.

There'll be time for copywriting practice too. Please feel free to bring along some of your own material to work on.
